PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

FROM FIRST STEPS TO THE SENIOR GAME.

Player development at Nitui connects the Basketball School, competitive Youth Teams and the Nitui Academy. Each part has its own purpose: an introduction to sport, learning through training and competition, and advanced preparation for senior and international 3x3 competition.

We are building the programme for male and female players of different ages and experience levels. Training content and opportunities to join are adapted to each individual’s prior knowledge, motivation and readiness. The aim is to provide continuity in training and clear next steps in development.

BASKETBALL SCHOOL

FIRST STEPS. A LOVE OF THE GAME.

The Basketball School is the entry point of the programme we are developing for children who are just discovering the sport and its fundamentals. The emphasis is on movement, play, spending time together and building a habit of regular training.

Through age-appropriate tasks, children learn to dribble, pass, shoot and work together. We want them to come to training with enthusiasm, recognise their own progress and gain confidence in the game.

  • Basketball fundamentals and coordination

We connect the gradual development of technique with motor skills, leaving room for attempts, mistakes and repetition.

  • Belonging to a team

Playing together creates opportunities for new friendships, mutual support and learning to respect teammates and opponents.

  • A habit of being active

Regular training gives physical activity a place in everyday life. Enjoyment of the game and a sense of progress are the foundation of a lasting interest in sport.

COMPETITIVE YOUTH TEAMS

LEARNING THROUGH TRAINING AND GAMES.

The Youth Teams connect acquired basketball fundamentals with regular training and competitive experience. Male and female players develop their technique, understanding of the game and ability to work together while gradually taking on responsibility within the team.

In 3x3 basketball, every player is frequently called upon to make decisions with the ball, defend an opponent and take part in finishing a possession. Training and games therefore connect individual development with learning team play.

Nitui’s younger players competed in five U16 tournaments during 2026. Further development includes bringing together new generations at U14 and U18 level and creating the conditions for female teams.

We are developing competitive groups gradually and with appropriate professional coaching. Participation in games is adapted to each player’s age, experience and readiness.

  • Work habits and responsibility

Consistency, attitude towards training and contribution to the team become an integral part of sporting development.

  • Competitive experience

Games provide an opportunity to apply what has been learned, face different opponents and learn from victories and defeats.

  • Preparing for the next level

We monitor progress through quality of play, understanding of assignments and readiness for more demanding roles.

NITUI ACADEMY

DEVELOPING POTENTIAL FOR THE SENIOR GAME.

We are developing the Nitui Academy as an advanced programme for male and female players who have basketball fundamentals and want to prepare for more demanding 3x3 competition. We place particular emphasis on progression towards U21, U23 and senior level, with younger players able to join when they are assessed as ready.

The Academy combines individual development, specialised basketball and strength and conditioning work, game analysis and competitive experience. It is also intended for players who want to adapt their experience in five-on-five basketball to the demands of 3x3.

A player may be part of the Academy while also competing in their age group or a senior squad. The Academy determines the content of their development work, while the competitive category provides the framework for competition.

  • Individual development goals

Identifying strengths and areas for improvement directs work on the technical, tactical and physical demands of the game.

  • Specialisation for 3x3

Quick decision-making, contact play, shooting under pressure, defending different opponents and working together in a small space are combined into complete preparation.

  • Analysis and feedback

Reviewing games and talking with coaches help players understand their decisions, their role in the team and their next training objectives.

  • Mentoring and sharing experience

We connect work with coaches and more experienced teammates with the development of mentoring relationships with experts from abroad.

  • Preparing for senior responsibility

The aim is to develop players ready for demanding competitive roles. Opportunities in senior squads depend on progress, readiness and the needs of the team.

PHYGITAL

PHYGITAL AS A FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH SPORT.

Through the development of the phygital programme, we want to introduce basketball to children who are first drawn to gaming. Connecting digital play with the basketball court can encourage them to discover the sport, join a shared activity and want to continue training.

Presenting the programme to primary schools, initially in Zagreb, is part of the Phygital Basketball Croatia plan. The Basketball School and Youth Teams can offer interested children a path forward through regular sporting activity.

LET'S FIND THE RIGHT PROGRAMME.

Tell us the player’s age, previous sporting experience and area of interest. Whether you are enquiring for a child who is just starting out or looking for the next step in your own development, we will discuss the available opportunities to join.
