3x3 guide

FIBA 3x3 Pro Circuit, Women’s Series and National Teams

The FIBA 3x3 system includes club and national-team competitions, but not every tournament leads to the same objective. The men’s professional club pathway, the women’s club programme and national-team competitions have different formats, entry requirements and rankings.

This guide outlines the most important levels. For domestic tournaments and the Croatian calendar, read 3x3 basketball in Croatia and Zagreb.

The men’s club system: from qualification to the World Tour

The highest level of the men’s club system is formed by the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters. They are staged in different cities throughout the season and bring together the strongest international teams under FIBA regulations, invitations and the qualification places assigned to each event.

The season concludes with the World Tour Final. It features teams that have earned sufficient points and placements throughout the season under the rules of that edition of the World Tour. One strong result at a Masters does not, by itself, lead automatically to the Final.

Challengers are official FIBA 3x3 Pro Circuit events that lead to designated World Tour Masters. Each Challenger has its own mix of qualifying places, invitations, registrations and participation rules. A team may qualify for a Challenger through a designated qualifier, ranking, wild card or another place assigned to that specific event.

A Lite Quest is a qualifying tournament that can lead to a designated Challenger. A Quest is a separate qualification level and generally opens a pathway towards a World Tour Masters. The exact connection between each Lite Quest, Quest, Challenger and Masters is always published for the relevant event.

How to read the qualification pathway

The simplest way to understand it is:

  • A Lite Quest can open qualification for a designated Challenger.
  • A Challenger can award places for a designated World Tour Masters.
  • A Quest generally opens a qualification pathway towards a World Tour Masters.
  • World Tour Masters award points throughout the season that determine the route towards the World Tour Final.

This is not one automatic ladder. The number of places, type of qualifier, registration requirements and eligibility are determined separately for each event. Before entering, teams should therefore check the page of the specific tournament on the FIBA 3x3 platform.

Player and team rankings

FIBA maintains individual rankings for female and male players, as well as team rankings. Individual points are linked to appearances at recognised events and to the results a player achieves. The team ranking is calculated under FIBA rules and is important for the ordering of teams and parts of the entry process for international tournaments.

Ranking is not the only condition for entry. For every Pro Circuit event, the organiser and FIBA also determine qualification places, wild cards, deadlines and administrative requirements. For Challengers and World Tour Masters, a team must also meet the requirements for a FIBA validated team.

The women’s club system

The leading international club programme for women is the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series. A series of events takes place throughout the season, which concludes with the Women’s Series Final. The format brings together women’s national, city, commercial and professional club teams under the regulations of that competition.

The Women’s Series is not the women’s version of the Lite Quest — Challenger — World Tour pathway. It is a separately regulated competition with its own calendar and entry conditions.

National-team competitions

The national-team system is separate from club competition. National teams compete in men’s and women’s categories.

The most important competitions include:

  • the **FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup**, an event for leading senior national teams under FIBA criteria;
  • continental championships, including the **FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup**;
  • the **FIBA 3x3 World Cup**;
  • the **Olympic Games**;
  • the **FIBA 3x3 Youth Nations League**, a national-team competition for younger age categories in both men’s and women’s competition.

A national-team call-up is not a direct consequence of playing for a club. National federations select players according to their own criteria, while FIBA defines registration and participation requirements for every competition.

An example from KK Nitui

In the 2026 season, Nitui Jarun played at the Lite Quest in Križevci, and that result secured qualification for the Novi Sad Challenger. It is a concrete example of how a qualifying event in the region can take a team to a more demanding international competition.

Such an appearance is not an automatic route to a World Tour Masters. Further progression depends on the system and rules of each subsequent event.
